World AIDS Day is December 1st Over 1 million people in the United States are currently living with HIV/AIDS. Recent CDC statistics show that 56,000 people became newly infected with HIV last year in this country. Worldwide, a staggering 33 million individuals are living with the disease. No cure or vaccine is yet available. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. The theme in 2008 is Leadership. Leadership empowers everyone - individuals, organizations and governments - to lead in the response to AIDS. |
